Fifty mushroom species have been shown to contain chemicals that have anti-cancer activity in animal studies. Six varieties of mushrooms have been studied in human cancers.
Active Hexose Correlated Compound (A.H.C.C.) has shown clinical promise (2000) in cancer.
Maitake D-Fraction has some proof of clinical usefulness (2000) against cancer.
Two fractions of Coriolus versicolor mushroom have demonstrated promise against cancer. The two proteoglycans fractions are called PSK (polysaccharide-K) and PSP (polysaccharide-Peptide) and have shown anti-cancer activity in humans. They are nontoxic and compatible with chemotherapy and radiation therapy while improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients.
CONCLUSION: Mushroom extracts are increasingly showing anti-cancer benefit.
