The authors studied the value of vitamin E in the prevention of lead toxicity (plumbism) in rats. They studied a number of known effects of lead on the blood to see if they could be prevented by vitamin E and found that vitamin E did not work when it was given after lead exposure. However, when the vitamin E was given simultaneously with the lead, the signs of lead toxicity and lead levels were reduced.
CONCLUSION: Simultaneous exposure to vitamin E and lead reduces the toxic effects of lead and even reduces the blood and liver lead levels. Giving vitamin E after lead exposure in rats does not prevent the toxic effects of plumbism.
NOTE: Homeopathic Plumbum metallicum has been shown to promote the removal of lead from the body.
