The homeopathic remedies, Rhus toxicodendrum (Rhus tox.) and others, have the ability to prevent viruses from attacking and destroying living cells. Homeopathy’s effectiveness will be debated for a long time since it defies reason that a product would work at the high dilutions used in Homeopathy.
Now we know that very highly diluted homeopathic medicines can alter gene expression at the molecular level. That treatment allows bacterial cells to resist viral phage* attack, even when it is unlikely that any molecules of the active ingredient are present. Homeopathic antiviral remedies are shown to be effective against phage attack in this study.
Researchers at India’s University of Kalyani studied this issue by testing whether Belladonna, Rhus tox. and Arnica Montana homeopathic remedies alter invasion of phage into cells of E. coli bacteria. Rhus tox. and Belladonna have been known to have antiviral effects. The scientists tested whether the homeopathic remedies alter phage’s ability to alter gene expression in E. coli cells.
The result was that Rhus tox. yields good protection from phage. Belladonna showed slightly less protection. Arnica showed better protection than placebo, although Arnica was not known to be antiviral and is mostly used for injury.
CONCLUSION: Rhus tox. and Belladonna homeopathic highly dilute remedies have the ability to protect cells from viral phage. They work at the cellular level to alter gene expression.
