Betaine (trimethylglycine or TMG), 4%, in a tooth paste significantly reduced the symptoms of dry mouth without side effects. Typical symptoms of dry mouth include impaired taste, mouth burning, and trouble speaking, chewing, and swallowing. People with dry mouth (xerostomia) develop candida infections of the mouth easily.
Betaine may work because it has moisturizing properties. Betaine did not reduce the infections of the mouth. But, the patients reported fewer symptoms of dyscomfort.
CONCLUSION: TMG used with tooth powder can relief symptoms of dry mouth syndrome.
