Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death, worldwide. In CVD, there is reduced circulation to the heart muscle causing reduced energy levels in the heart muscle cells. The heart is said to be “energy starved.” This changes the cells’ ability to function. No good drugs have been developed to treat this.
D-ribose is a carbohydrate which has been shown to be therapeutic in people with ischemic cardiovascular disease and in people with congestive heart failure.
CONCLUSION: D-ribose has been shown to have energy enhancing activity for heart muscle in ischemic heart disease and in congestive heart failure.
