This is a review of an eight week study of Klamath algae extract treatment for menopausal women, with evaluation of their general and hormonal well-being. No hormonal therapy was used, and the women were evaluated for their hormonal and psychological health. Another group of women was given placebo and was evaluated in the same way (no hormones used).
After 8 weeks treatment, there was no difference in the two groups hormonally. However, there was significant improvement in the women receiving the Klamath algae extract, with a consistent improvement in quality of life. They experienced improved mood, less anxiety and less depression.
CONCLUSION: Menopausal women taking Klamath algae extract experienced no hormonal changes, but had psychological improvement in mood, anxiety and depression.
