To many researchers, the Paleolithic diet is the best for the way that our bodies function. A modern “Paleolithic” diet would consist of grain-free whole foods, roots, leafy greens, nuts, meats, eggs, fish and fruits. This diet produces healthy and friendly bacteria populations in our bodies which would promote good health. Currently, the evidence is that the most common modern diets promote obesity and inflammation.
Ancestral or traditional foods have reduced carbohydrate density. This results in lower blood sugar levels and produces a less inflammatory population of friendly bacteria in the gut. Many of today’s chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes, are considered to be inflammatory in origin. “… In humans, low-carbohydrate diets spontaneously decrease weight in a way that low-fat diets do not.” Avoid flour and sugar.
Australian Aborigines with diabetes were shown to have improved health when they returned to the hunter-gatherer lifestyle and diet. Other studies show that people on a Western diet improve when they eliminate grains and processed or refined foods from their diets.
CONCLUSION: There is good evidence that the Paleolithic diet is beneficial for modern humans.
